Korea Tour 2006

February 16

Another morning of hellish training but I'll spare you the details because I get tired just thinking about it. However a highlight was when GM Yun enlightened us with some of his philosophies of living long and healthy.

Later we visited Kyongbok Palace where we all got to pose as guards with some costumes and props they had available. Also got to watch a little "changing of the guard" ceremony or so we thought. I mean when a group of several guys wearing guards uniforms come marching with spears and drums, you generally don't go tapping them on the shoulder and ask what they're doing. So, yeah, I made an assumption, sue me.

Next we were off to Korean Sports Dance. Yeah, I said that right, sports dance. The best way to describe it is to say it's a cross between line dancing and low impact aerobics. The only reason I say aerobics is because we're moving so fast that we really worked up a sweat! Keep-a-keep anyone?

After breaking a sweat, it was time relax those muscles and work on our massage technique. The Seoul Sports Graduate University trained us in sports massage. We also got a little taste of some chiropractic techniques too. I must personally thank Justin, my massage partner, for asking the instructor to personally demonstrate the neck cracking...on ME!! Man, I don't know...something about that just can't be good, I mean do you hear that noise?? And Ryan, how's the glute massage? RELAX! *smack*

After our massage course we went to dinner with the University President Joong-Young Kim (9th Degree in TKD). The cultural dinner tonight was called Shabu Shabu also known as Hot Pot. Beef and lots of vegetables, mushrooms and seaweed. Seaweed & mushrooms...not a fan. But the beef was really good. All items were cooked on a cone shaped burner/tabletop grill where everything cooks. Juices and broth gathers at the bottom which you scoop up and put on your rice.
